ALC Graduate Presents Research at Inaugural Engineering CCP Conference

05 Oct 2026

Ada Lovelace Centre funded research was presented at the inaugural Engineering Collaborative Computational Project Conference.

Harriet Jones is a Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Scientific Computing Graduate Software Engineer. She explained the ALC funded research project she showcased at the conference, “I was focused on developing image-based simulation capabilities for the open source, massively parallel computational fluid dynamics solver code_saturne. The aim of this is to provide an accessible, scalable and robust way in which to perform simulations directly on highly complex, experimentally determined geometries.

“The conference gathered representatives from CCP-Nuclear Thermal Hydraulics, CCP-Wave Structure Interactions, CCP-Quantum Computing and CCP-Turbulence. It provided a vibrant cross-disciplinary forum for these communities, and featured keynote speakers from NVIDIA, UKAEA and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.

“It gave me a valuable opportunity to engage with members of these communities, hear about the latest advances in the sector, and get feedback and ideas for future collaboration opportunities.

“This was especially useful as I am currently beginning the next stage of this work, in which my team will be collaborating with the Imaging and Microscopy Group at Diamond Light Source to deliver the ALC-funded “Improvements, Optimisation and Deployment of Image-Based Modelling Capabilities for Facilities”. This project focuses on embedding the previously developed image-based simulation workflows within beamline infrastructure.

“The ALC has been a central part of my early-careers development on the STFC Graduate Scheme, and I am delighted that I will be taking this work forward into my first long-term staff project in the Computational Engineering Theme”
